6:26 PM -
in a blink, a week of school has passed. taking 4 modules this sem - anthropology, sociology, psych 1 and 2. though i did not embrace the thought of going back to school once again very well, i have to admit that it's interesting. though i'd still think about the teaching days, missing the little ones and colleagues alike.
there is just so much reading to do, and though interesting, it makes life mundane. read, attend lectures, read, attend tutorials, read. i seriously wonder how our brains take in all the endless information, knowledge, memories.. don't brains get saturated? or maybe, they work like certain technology - new things come in, and if the memory is full, the oldest ones just get deleted automatically.
but, i'm embracing the thought that one day, i'll be able to understand human behaviour, and scrutinise everyone i come across. haha.
after one week, it has really got me thinking already. about our society, our culture, and there are some readings that were really interesting..
we live in a society which we don't know much about, how apathetic is that?
and our supposed culture may not be the actual thing; after all, we got our culture from our parents and grandparents, and everyone's parents and grandparents teach and inculcate different things, ain't it? there isn't a textbook to learn from, after all.
i read this article about chinese table manners written by an American, and i think many of us chinese ought to ashamed after reading this, because of the lack of knowledge of even our own culture. Indeed, you are how you eat. one's eating habits reflects on the person's character, and i dare not imagine what the native chinese think when they see us singaporeans eating. maybe not all- i dare not generalise, but, mostly.
and, my soci lecturer said that there is no such thing as race.
now, that's something new. =)
